Do you ever feel like you’re stuck in a rut and want to improve but don’t know where to start? Whether it’s achieving personal or professional goals, many of us struggle with taking the necessary steps to make our dreams a reality. This is where a coach can help. As Bill Gates famously said in his 2013 TED talk, “Everyone needs a coach!”
There are many different types of coaches out there, including life coaches, business coaches, money coaches, health coaches, and career coaches. Regardless of the type of coach, they all have one thing in common: they can help you make real changes in your life.
Here are three main reasons why everyone needs a coach.
- Coach sees the big picture.
It’s easy to get stuck in our routines and challenges and lose sight of our blind spots. A coach can come in as an outsider and bring a fresh perspective. By asking smart questions, they can help us shine a light on our blind spots and build up the courage and confidence to move past them.
For example, I recently discovered with the help of my life coach that I have delegation problems. I always try to do everything myself because I believe it’s faster and more efficient, but this blind spot is holding me back from investing more time and energy into skills I want to grow.
2. Coach helps to clarify goals and make an action plan.
Sometimes we know we want to change something in our lives, but we don’t know what exactly or where to start. A coach can help identify and clarify your goals and values and make sure your actions support them.
After clarifying your goal, the coach can help you create a detailed plan on how to achieve it and find ways to hold you accountable. For me, my coach and I prepared a plan on how to approach every task from a delegation point of view going forward. I call this plan my “light bulb” and it helps me stay on track.
3. Coach supports and empowers.
Everyone benefits from encouragement, and a well-trained coach can provide constructive feedback and use powerful questions to help you solve your own problems. Coaching sessions are a safe place to self-reflect and create meaningful outcomes that are much more likely to be followed through.
Talking about my delegation struggles with my coach felt so good and safe. By the end of the session, I felt like I was on a path to grow and improve myself as opposed to seeing it as a weakness.
In summary, if you want to improve your quality of life, you need a coach. A coach can help you identify blind spots, clarify your goals and make an action plan, and support and empower you on your journey. Ask yourself today, “How would I and my life benefit from working with a coach?” and take that first step towards making your dreams a reality.
